Getting Baby-Ready - The Dresser Hack Challenge

Getting Baby-Ready - The Dresser Hack Challenge

Getting ready for your new baby is such a lovely and exciting time. Everything from decorating the nursery to buying furniture, clothes and nappies is all part of the nesting ritual that helps us to mentally prepare for being parents.

Whether it’s your first, second or third baby on the way, getting organised before they arrive will mean that you can enjoy those precious first few weeks with your newborn, without worrying about a lack of nappies or making a mad dash to the chemist for cotton wool!

To celebrate this special ‘getting baby-ready’ time, we gave our best-selling Clara Dresser to three pregnant bloggers to help them prepare for the arrival of their little ones. The challenge was to create a beautiful yet practical space for their babies that would suit their style and ensure that all those baby essentials are close to hand. This is their story…

Jo’s Beautiful Brights

Due: December 2016
Blog: She and Hem

Jo chose the East Coast Diamonds changing mat in coral, and continued the bright and colourful theme in the rest of her design. She decorated the frame of the Clara Dresser with beautiful multi-coloured bunting that looks stunning against the simple white frame. Moving on to the practical, she purchased these super-cute knitted teddy bear storage tubs in two different sizes. Placed on the top shelf with colourful blankets they provide the perfect place to store spare clothes and muslin squares.

For the bottom shelf Jo bought a set of three geometric print suitcases – which combine style and storage! She’s using these to store nappies and toiletries. They look fab open, but can be closed to keep them safe once baby starts crawling.

Jo said: I’m really pleased with how it’s turned out, although I imagine this will be the neatest it ever looks! It was also so nice to do this challenge and made me feel really prepared for the arrival of the little one in December!”

We love: Jo has added cute extras that look great and provide really useful added storage. The bright organiser caddies and the green monkey hooks are wonderful little touches. Read the full blog.

Victoria’s Super Chevrons

Due: January 2017
Blog: She and Hem

Victoria decided to top her dresser with the East Coast Chevron changing mat in turquoise and then used this geometric print as the inspiration for the rest of her styling. We know that chevrons are a big interiors trend at the moment, so Victoria was able to find these cool matching chevron storage boxes in grey, just perfect for storing essentials like wipes and muslin cloths, keeping them tidy and organised.

To provide a pop of colour, she also added a yellow chevron blanket. The stylish wooden box on the bottom shelf looks great too and is perfect for storing spare sleepsuits and vests.

Victoria said: “As soon as I put it together I could tell it was going to be so much easier to store all of the baby changing accessories in one organised place, and hopefully quicker to change the little rascal too! Styling the dresser was lots of fun, and I’m dead chuffed with the end result. It feels pretty lovely to have something ready for the baby.”

Our favourite thing: Victoria used an Ikea removable suction hook at the side of her dresser, creating the perfect place to hang a laundry bag! So clever, we LOVE it! Read the full blog.

Lyndsay’s Pretty & Practical Dresser

Due: February 2017
Blog: Fizzy Peaches

Just before she started the challenge Lyndsay had her 20-week scan and discovered that she’s expecting a girl! This great timing meant that she could go girly with the East Coast Chevron changing mat in beautiful bright pink (Raspberry). Although she’s not finished decorating her nursery yet, the colour scheme is purple so this will coordinate while providing a lovely pop of colour.

For Lyndsay it was all about creating practical spaces for her changing table, she bought some beautiful lined wicker baskets that were big enough to store plenty of essential items. This is a nifty way to separate bathtime products from nappy changing must-haves like cotton wool and barrier cream!

By putting her (super-cute, tiny) newborn nappies in a larger basket on the bottom shelf they’re in easy grabbing range but look lovely and tidy too!

Lyndsay said: I particularly wanted a changing table, so it’ll be super easy to keep everything in one place. I also love to keep organised, so buying storage and baskets is my heaven!”

We love: Lyndsay had the great idea of taking the box that her toiletries came in and turning it into a handy nappy bin - plus it’s the perfect shade of purple too! Good work. Read the full blog.
